Digital Citizenship Week – Wednesday: Privacy & Online Safety!
NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE SHARED!
Did you know that even a simple picture or social media post can reveal more information than you intended?
Whether students are gaming, texting, using social media, or exploring websites, protecting personal information is an important part of staying safe online.
A few reminders for students:
Keep passwords private, even from friends.
Think twice before sharing your address, phone number, location, or school schedule.
Be careful who you accept as a friend or follower.
Remember that pictures can reveal personal information in the background.
Avoid clicking unfamiliar links or responding to suspicious messages.
Family Challenge: Take five minutes tonight to review the privacy settings on an app, game, or social media account your child uses. Who can see their pictures, posts, and location?
Parent Tip: Keep conversations about online safety open and ongoing. Remind your child that if they encounter something uncomfortable, confusing, or concerning online, they can come to you for help and guidance.
