Several area students qualify for state Geographic Bee

A number of central South Dakota students qualified to participate in the state-level Geographic Bee. It takes place today in the Student Union of South Dakota State University, beginning at 1:15 p.m.

The participants will be competing for a spot in the national competition in Washington, D.C. in May. The Bee is organized by the National Geographic Society.  To qualify, students won competitions at their schools and then passed a written test from the National Geographic Society.

The following area students qualified:

•Garrett Kiefer, Hitchcock-Tulare Elementary, Hitchcock

•Cody Bevers, Miller School, Miller

•Chase Wright, Agar-Blunt-Onida, Onida

•Nathanael Hill, Pierre Area Homeschoolers, Pierre

•Claire Hussey, Saint Joseph School, Pierre

•Phillip Adam, Washington Elementary, Pierre

•Emily Mikkelsen, Buchanan Elementary, Pierre

•Cobey Carr, McKinley Elementary School, Pierre

•Dmitri Mutchelknaus, Jefferson Elementary, Pierre
