A Message from Stanley County Superintendent of Schools: Under the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, all school districts are required to annually provide assessment and accountability reports for the district and for each school. The reports are for parents, school personnel and community members. In this report you will find the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) status of each of the Stanley County schools and for the District as a summary. The AYP status represents the ‘accountability’ piece of this report. Accountability is determined based on the achievement of students who were enrolled from October 1, 2009 to April 23, 2010. School districts are also required to share each student’s State Test of Educational Progress (STEP) with the child’s parents and/or guardians. All students in grades 3 – 8 and 11 took the Dakota STEP in April, 2010. Individual student results will be mailed to parents during the week of September 1, 2010. The state Department of Education produces an on-line Report Card that includes assessment and accountability information at the state, district and school level. You are welcome to visit this site at: www.doe.sd.gov. Click on the “Report Card” Quick Link in the left-hand column. The most recent data is also available for the district and for each school on the Stanley County Schools “2010 Report Card” link directly below this message. You may also visit the school district web site at stanleycounty@k12.sd.us and view the State-generated Report Card as well as the School District-generated Accountability and Assessment report for the district and for each individual school in the district. I hope you will find the information presented in this document helpful. Each year the AYP “achievement bar” is raised slightly higher, which means the requirements for passing are more stringent than the previous year. Our goal is to provide continued support and maintain an increased effort to strengthen student learning in those areas where performance is weaker than desired and to encourage higher standards of achievement in those areas where students excel. We are very proud of our students and teaching staff for doing such a great job reaching higher goals year-after-year. We believe the high quality of our dedicated faculty and staff, along with the continued support and encouragement provided by parents and guardians, plays an integral role in the continued success enjoyed by the majority of students within our schools.
